Want to sound more confident? Remove these words from your copy

You don’t need to overhaul your entire website copy to sound more confident.
Sometimes it’s literally a four-letter word that seems harmless, but makes your copy feel unsure, polite, or a bit meh.
The brain is incredibly sensitive to micro-signals of confidence. When something sounds hesitant, people feel it instantly, even if they cannot explain why. Their trust drops, their certainty wobbles, and suddenly they are not ready to book, upgrade, or commit.
Here are some of the most common phrases I see weakening clinic copy:
“Designed To”
This phrase describes intention rather than outcome. It creates a small but noticeable gap between what you offer and what actually happens, which can feel like a risk to a reader.
Instead of: This facial is designed to improve texture.
Try: This facial improves texture.
“Just”
This is the most innocent word that somehow makes everything feel smaller. Even when you mean to sound friendly, it can come across as downplaying your own offer.
Instead of: Just book in for a consult.
Try: Book in for a consult.
“We Aim To”
This sounds polite, but it frames your service as a best effort rather than a standard. When someone spends money on their skin, they want to feel confident in the results, not reminded that it is a trial.
Instead of: We aim to reduce redness.
Try: This treatment reduces redness.
“Can Help”
This quietly introduces doubt. It sounds optional rather than reliable.
Instead of: This serum can help with breakouts.
Try: This serum supports clearer skin.
“We Believe”
This shifts your message into opinion territory when what you really want to communicate is expertise.
Instead of: We believe in personalised skincare.
Try: Personalised skincare is at the core of everything we do.
“Elevate”
There is nothing technically wrong with this word, but it has been used so widely that it has lost its meaning. It signals sameness rather than sophistication, and your brain skips straight past it.
Instead of: Elevate your skincare routine. Try: Upgrade your routine. Make your routine work harder.

Let’s not be dramatic. These words are not bad; they are simply tired. Removing them will not magically double your bookings, but it will make your copy feel clearer, stronger, and sound more confident without changing what you actually offer.
